Founder & Owner

As a nutritionist, I have worked in the Evansville area for the past seven years coaching individuals in weight management. Although I found this work to be both important and gratifying, I felt called to do more in the field of Nutrition and Wellness. Specifically, I was interested in applying the science of nutrition to mental and physical wellness. Medication is undoubtedly beneficial in treating many health conditions, but it may not be necessary in many cases. By utilizing personal wellness coaching in our community through Real You Wellness, we hope to empower individuals to take control of their health.

Why I founded Real You Wellness

Growing up as a child with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) wasn’t easy. The lack of impulse control, inability to focus, and the emotional turmoil that comes with having ADHD affected me in ways I would never wish upon anyone, especially a child. Although medication worked well for a while, the negative side effects began to set in upon starting college. After researching the ways in which food, activity, sleep, and other factors affect our brains, I wanted to find a non-pharmaceutical approach for myself. Proper nutrition, exercise, lifestyle adjustments, and accountability can provide natural alternatives to medication or options that work with medications to give us the highest quality of life.

My Story

Upon moving to Evansville in 7th grade, I was held back. The stress of moving to a new city and leaving friends at such a pivotal age shook my grades from Cs to Fs. My parents assumed holding me back would solve my issues. It did, in a way. I began getting Bs and Cs again instead of Fs, but starting 6th grade over was just a reminder that I wasn’t as intelligent as my fellow students. I didn’t belong. This sense of feeling lost and the difficulty in achieving academic success continued through grade school and high school.

Every week I would come home with demerits, detentions, and eventually suspensions. None of these reprimands were brought on by extreme behaviors, just chronic “uncooperative” behavior. Constantly chewing gum against my teacher’s wishes, for example, almost barred me from my 8th-grade class trip. Still, it seemed as though my behavior was branding me as “disruptive” or “difficult.”

It wasn’t until I was a senior in high school and became concerned about the demands of college that I decided to visit my doctor. I was diagnosed with ADHD and began taking medication. I thought at the time that my problems were solved. My grades improved, my teachers began to enjoy having me in class, and I was much more organized and excited about learning. But I gradually realized this was simply a band-aid to an issue I had to work much harder on.

I became clinically depressed, experienced significant weight loss, migraines, and couldn’t get out of bed without the medication. Unfortunately, my doctor failed to mention any possible side effects to me. Upon researching my prescribed medication, I discovered the possible side effects.

After researching the ways in which food, activity, sleep, and other factors affect our brains, I wanted to find a non-pharmaceutical approach for myself. Proper nutrition, activity, lifestyle adjustments, and accountability, can provide real alternatives to medication or options that work with medications to give us the highest quality of life. The goal at Real You Wellness is to work with the medical community and work with what is important to you. This is a link that has been missing in healthcare and one I wish I had when I was younger.

As I look to the future with my own family, I want to share what I’ve learned and experienced with others. I look forward to working with you to uncover a life that fits who you truly are.

Education & Lifestyle

I attended the University of Southern Indiana and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition, graduating in 2015. (One great thing about ADHD is that people diagnosed with it are often able to excel in subjects they are passionate about).

Since then, I’ve found a balance that works for me in controlling my mental health.  This has not only been rewarding for me but for my family as well.  As a wife and mother of 3 small children, I can now share the tools to assist them in becoming the best versions of who they were created to be.
